Experience and Dedication to the Unit... K-9 Unit handlers are selected by the Chief of the Burton Police based in part, upon experience and desire to serve in the K-9 Unit. Plans to expand the unit are anticipated; currently Officer Paul Philips is assigned to K-9 "Horge". Officer Philips has over twenty years experience in training service dogs, has attended numerous seminars and has trained with well-known service dog trainers from Germany. Officer Philips has competed in national working dog competitions and has a long history of trials with his own dogs in working dog sports before being assigned to K-9 "Horge". Officer Philips most recently spent nine weeks at the Landheim Training Center in Indiana where K-9 Horge was purchased and trained.
